A Day in the Life of Mayur Murali Graduate Apprentice

My new years reformations are to be a healthier me, and to try something new everyday. I see several problems with the former – notably my dislike of exercise and my love of sugar and saturated fats. Every year, this theme of self-improvement strikes at precisely 12.01am on the first of January, and rarely is it adhered to. I myself am no different. Already I have succumbed to the twin sins of the mid-morning pastry break and the post-dinner chocolate gorge.

Fortunately, the Graduate Apprentice, which is a never-ending stream of firsts, has allowed me to stick to at least the second of these resolutions.
Today was my first day at my second placement, Leasemethod Management. It couldn’t have begun in more ominous fashion. Grey skies, rain, and I couldn’t find my suit jacket. Setbacks overcome, feeling rather like an anxious schoolboy, I made my way to the offices, located close to St. Paul’s Square in the Jewellery Quarter.
And it was all a bit of a blur – meeting the team, familiarising myself with the portfolio of properties owned by LMM, getting myself up to speed with the software. My first few weeks will involve working closely with the sales side of LMM’s serviced apartments. This will initially involve ensuring LMM’s presence on a number of property websites, following up client contacts and meeting with local businesses to try and forge links. Today was all about observing my colleagues at work, trying to pick things up, but I hope to take on more responsibility as I become more familiar with my surroundings.
My aims for the placement are, as ever, to learn and experience as much as possible, and to take on as much responsibility as my limited experience allows. I look forward to facing the challenges of an entirely new working environment. Most of all, I hope to enjoy the placement as much as I have enjoyed working at Deloitte, and to contribute something valuable to LMM in the process.
